Corinthia is the easiest day trip from Athens: an hour on the road and you are standing in front of one of the most important ancient centres in Greece. This plan fits comfortably into one day without rushing.
Morning — 09:30
Start at the Corinth Canal. Ten minutes on the bridge is enough for the view; with luck you will catch a ship passing. Then drop down to Isthmia for the submersible bridge — it sinks into the water to let ships over it.
Midday — 11:30
Ancient Corinth: the archaeological site with the Temple of Apollo and the museum. Allow 1.5–2 hours. Eat at one of the village tavernas, looking out over the ruins.
Afternoon — 15:00
Drive up to Acrocorinth, the largest castle in Greece. The road goes as far as the gate. From the top you see both seas at once.
Sunset — 18:00
Head down for a swim at Lechaio or Kalamia — or, if you want the picture, go out to the Melagavi lighthouse for the finest sunset in the region.
