Few villages in Greece live so literally on top of their own history. The village of Ancient Corinth spreads around the archaeological site, with the Temple of Apollo visible from the square and Acrocorinth rising above.
Village life
Around the entrance to the site you will find tavernas and cafes, many with a view over the ruins. It is the natural place to stop before or after your visit — and one of the very few cases where a meal overlooking an ancient temple is not an exaggeration.
What to see
- The archaeological site of Ancient Corinth and its museum.
- Acrocorinth, the great castle above the village.
- Lechaion, the ancient harbour, a few kilometres towards the sea.
Practical notes
- About 7 km from modern Corinth.
- The road up to Acrocorinth is steep and winding; you can drive as far as the gate.
- In summer, start early — the site has no shade.
