Beside the ancient harbour of Kechreai stands a small fort known as the Bourtzi — a name that on Greek coasts almost always means a seaside tower-fort.
The position
The spot was not chosen at random: all traffic to and from the Saronic Gulf passed here. A fort at the harbour mouth controlled shipping and offered protection against pirate raids, a constant threat in post-Byzantine times.
What you will see
Sections of masonry survive close to the water. What makes the visit worthwhile is the combination: an ancient harbour submerged in the shallows, a medieval fort on the shore, and a beach right beside it.
