📍 Check in with Corinthia Pass
The archaeological site of Ancient Corinth is large and has no marked route. This order works well and takes about 90 minutes.
1. Temple of Apollo
Start at the seven standing columns — one of the oldest Doric temples in Greece, 6th century BC. It is the emblem of the site and the best photograph, with Acrocorinth behind.
2. The Forum
Walk down into the great square. This was the heart of Roman Corinth: shops, stoas and public buildings around an enormous open space.
3. The Bema
At the centre of the south side. This is the proconsul’s tribunal — and the spot where, according to the Acts of the Apostles, Saint Paul was brought before Gallio.
4. The Peirene Fountain
The city’s great fountain house, with its vaulted reservoirs. Its water supplied Corinth for centuries. In myth, this is where Pegasus drank.
5. The Lechaion Road
The marble-paved street running down towards the harbour of Lechaion. Stand at its head and look north — the logic of the whole city becomes obvious.
6. The Museum
Finish at the Archaeological Museum: sculpture, mosaics and the finds from the Asklepieion.
Practical notes
- There is no shade — hat, water, closed shoes.
- Best times: early morning or late afternoon.
- Afterwards, eat in the village tavernas and drive up to Acrocorinth.
