Lake Vouliagmeni — also known as the Heraion lake — is an almost enclosed lagoon on the Perachora peninsula, joined to the Corinthian Gulf through a single narrow channel.
Why it stands out
The water is calm almost always, even when it is blowing outside, and its temperature is usually gentler than the open sea. That makes it ideal for families, for long-distance swimming and for kayaking.
