Kondylis – Papanikolaou is a bakery and pastry shop in the centre of Kiato, on Eleftheriou Venizelou Street. It opens early in the morning, and from the first hours the counter fills with warm bread, savoury bakes and sweets. Locals stop here for their daily loaf, a quick bite on the go, or something sweet to take home.
Bread is baked every day in many varieties, including wholegrain loaves topped with sesame. Alongside them you will find Greek cookies (koulourakia), biscuits, dunking biscuits and rusks, as well as savoury bakes for breakfast or the road.
The pastry counter offers a wide choice: rolls, chocolates, traditional tray sweets, homemade cakes such as sesame cake, and chocolate log cake. You can also pick up a coffee to go.
At Christmas and New Year the bakery makes vasilopita, the traditional New Year cake, and diples, crisp fried pastry with honey and sesame. At Easter the window fills with tsoureki sweet bread, both classic and with chocolate, Easter cookies, red-dyed eggs, chocolate Easter treats and decorated Easter candles (lambades).
If you are staying in or passing through Kiato, it is a good stop for breakfast before a walk along the beach, or for bread and sweets before heading home.
