straight-line distances
Above Sofiko, in south-eastern Corinthia, stand the ruins of a medieval castle. The area, with its dense pine forest and steep hills, was always difficult country — and was fortified for exactly that reason.
The position
The castle commands the belt between the Saronic Gulf and the interior, where the roads ran towards Korfos and the southern coast. It formed part of the network of small forts covering medieval Corinthia.
What you will see
Sections of wall and foundations on the hilltop, with views over the pine woods and the sea. The site is open and undeveloped.
Practical notes
- Reached from Sofiko on an uphill walk.
- No signage — ask in the village.
- Take care in summer: high fire risk in the pine forest.
