Small in size but unusually rich in content, the museum sits inside the archaeological site of Isthmia and gathers the finds from the Sanctuary of Poseidon and from both harbours of ancient Corinth.

What you will see

The rarest exhibit does not come from the sanctuary at all but from Kechreai: a set of glass opus sectile panels from the 4th century AD, showing harbours, plants and human figures. They were found still packed in their crates in the submerged harbour, as though waiting to be installed — a find without parallel anywhere in the world.

The remaining cases hold votive offerings from the sanctuary, athletic equipment connected with the Isthmian Games, sculpture, inscriptions and everyday objects that bring to life the world around a great Panhellenic sanctuary.

Practical notes

• It stands within the Isthmia site itself, so the two are visited together.
• It is indoors, which makes it a good choice on a very hot or rainy day.
• Allow about an hour to take it in without rushing.
