  • 22.7 km south of Corinth

straight-line distances

In the southern, mountainous part of Corinthia — country few visitors ever cross — stands Angelokastro. The village of the same name takes its name from the castle.

The position

The fort occupies a naturally protected site commanding the mountain passes towards the Argolid and the Saronic. The choice reflects the logic of the medieval Peloponnese: small castles at every critical pass, rather than a few large ones.

What you will see

Sections of wall and fortification with wide views over the mountain landscape. The site is open and completely undeveloped.

Practical notes

  • Reached from the village of Angelokastro; the road is mountainous.
  • No facilities, water or shade.
  • Ideal for anyone looking for the unknown side of the region.
