On the ancient road linking Corinth with Argos, Kleonai was a small but far from insignificant city. Its position beside Nemea gave it a role out of all proportion to its size: for long periods it was Kleonai that ran the Nemean Games.
What you will see
The site preserves remains of the Temple of Herakles, a farm villa, an ancient quarry and traces of the fortifications. The remains are scattered across the landscape rather than concentrated, so a little wandering is part of the visit.
The area carries its myth too: Herakles is said to have passed this way on his road to the lion of Nemea.
