Nemea is the beating heart of Greek red wine. Its signature grape, Agiorgitiko, has been cultivated here since antiquity and produces everything from soft, cherry-bright reds to deep, age-worthy wines. With over 30 wineries — nearly half open to visitors — Nemea is one of the most rewarding wine escapes in the country.

Gaia Wines
Open to visitors year-round by appointment — one of Nemea’s most celebrated producers, with an immersive vineyard-and-cellar experience.
Palivos Estate
A family estate inviting guests to explore the vineyards, cellar and production, with guided tastings of Agiorgitiko.
Semeli Estate
A modern winery with a warm visitor programme — tour the cellar, walk the vines and taste the range.
Several other family estates line the Nemea wine roads. Tastings typically start from around €10 (usually 4–6 wines with a cheese plate).
How to get there
- By car: ~1h30 from Athens via the E94 — the wineries are spread across the valley, so a car helps.
- By organised tour: the relaxed choice — someone else drives while you taste. Pickup, guide and 3–4 wineries handled for you.
September harvest — the best time to visit
The mid-seasons of spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are ideal. September brings the trygos (grape harvest): the vineyards buzz with activity, the light is golden, and many estates host harvest events.
