📍 Check in with Corinthia Pass
In the mountains of northern Corinthia, above the Derveni–Evrostina belt, stands one of the most unusual shrines in the region: Panagia Katafygiotissa, also known as Our Lady of the Rocks.
Why it stands out
The chapel is literally built into the rock face: a natural hollow in the mountain forms part of the church. The name Katafygiotissa — from the word for refuge — points to what such places were for in hard times: hidden, hard to reach, safe.
The visit
The drive passes through mountain country with steep slopes and views over the Corinthian Gulf. The site has a particular atmosphere, especially outside the crowded feast days.
Practical notes
- Mountain access from the Derveni–Evrostina area.
- The road is narrow; drive carefully.
- Respect the site — it is an active place of worship.
