Where ships crossed dry land before the Canal existed
Before the Canal, ships were dragged across a paved road from one sea to the other. The Diolkos still survives. Beside it stands the sanctuary where the Isthmian Games were held — second only to Olympia in the ancient world. The route ends at the submersible bridge, which sinks beneath the water instead of lifting.
