What to expect
The area is known for the dormant Sousaki volcano on the southern slopes of Mount Gerania, part of the same volcanic arc as Methana, Aegina and Santorini. Its last activity dates back some 2.7 million years, yet it still gives off warm gases, mainly carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide. The landscape of volcanic rock and sulphur smell is reached by a rough path through olive groves.
