The Corinth Canal is one of the most impressive engineering feats of the 19th century. Opened in 1893, it cuts through the Isthmus for 6.3 kilometres, connecting the Saronic and Corinthian gulfs and sparing ships the long voyage around the Peloponnese. Its sheer rock walls rise up to 80 metres, creating a striking sight. Today visitors admire it from the bridges, try bungee jumping, or sail through the canal by boat. It makes a perfect stop on the way to or from the Peloponnese.
