On the plateau where ancient Sikyon was relocated, next to the theatre, the city stadium survives. Its distinguishing feature is how it uses the natural landform: one side is cut into the hillside, the other supported on an artificial embankment.

What you will see

The long track and the banks where spectators sat are clearly readable. The site is open and quiet — you will usually have it almost to yourself, which is never the case at the major archaeological centres.

A few metres away stand the ancient theatre, one of the largest in the Peloponnese, and the museum inside the Roman bath.

Practical notes

• At Vasiliko, near Kiato.
• The ground is earthen and uneven; wear suitable shoes.
• Best early morning or late afternoon, as there is no shade.
