The Cultural Association of Kryoneri was founded in 1985 in Kryoneri, Corinthia, originally under the name “Cultural and Educational Youth Association of Kryoneri.” From its inception to the present day, it has been one of the primary pillars of culture and tradition in the region, with the main goal of safeguarding our cultural heritage and preserving our customs and traditions.
Housing and Infrastructure
The Association is based in the Youth Club premises, which were renovated in 2003 to provide a modern environment for its activities. The space serves as a meeting point for the Board of Directors, as well as a lending library for members and local residents.
Association Activities: Traditional Dances
Since 1993, the Association has been organizing traditional dance classes at the village’s Community Center (Polykentro), catering to both children and adults. The Association’s dance troupes participate annually in the “Two-Day Traditional Dance Festival” held during Kryoneri’s Cultural Week. Additionally, they take part in various cultural events across Corinthia and other parts of Greece.
International Presence
The Association has represented Greece in numerous countries, including the Czech Republic, Germany, Serbia, Italy, Hungary, and Belgium. A particularly prestigious moment was the participation of the Association’s dance troupe in the Athens 2004 Olympics—a unique experience that showcased Kryoneri and its cultural traditions on an international stage.
Cultural Activities
The Cultural Week, organized every year in mid-July, is the highlight of the Association’s activities. It includes a variety of events for all ages, such as:
In the context of musical events, the Association has hosted concerts by renowned artists, including Nikos Papazoglou, Pyx Lax, Socratis Malamas, Dimitris Basis, Manolis Lidakis, and many others. Furthermore, the Association supports every event held in the village in cooperation with the local Community, the Municipality, and other local organizations.
Social Contribution
Since 1999, the Association has organized voluntary blood drives twice a year, strengthening social contribution and solidarity within the local community.
Other Activities
In addition to traditional dances, the Association organizes Taekwondo and artistic gymnastics classes, while in the past, it has also offered modern dance and karate lessons.
The Cultural Association of Kryoneri remains a dynamic and active organization, contributing to the promotion of culture and tradition while fostering a spirit of social solidarity and cooperation. With its eyes set on the future, it continues its work, keeping the cultural identity of Kryoneri alive.
