Environment Museum of Stymphalia
A PIOP thematic museum in mountainous Corinthia: the bond between people and nature at Lake Stymphalia, with a striking open aquarium.
In mountainous Corinthia, where myth places Heracles’ labour against the Stymphalian Birds, the Environment Museum of Stymphalia belongs to the Thematic Museum Network of the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP).
The theme
The museum explores the interdependence of people and nature: how the lake and landscape shaped the traditional crafts and life of the region, with a strong ecological-awareness aim.
What to see
The exhibition unfolds in two sections — the environment and human activity — with models, digital reconstructions and documentary films. Its highlight is an open aquarium that recreates the lake in cross-section, with fish and plants of Stymphalia.
