Athikia lies in the hinterland of southern Corinthia, in an area that lives off the land. All around spread vineyards, olive groves and citrus, with the mountains of Corinthia behind and the sea a few minutes away.
Its character
This is one of the villages that has not been turned into a tourist destination. You will find a square, cafes and the daily life of a working village — which is exactly what makes it interesting for anyone who wants to see Corinthia as it really is.
What is around
The eastern coast with Almyri and Loutra Oreas Elenis, Acrocorinth and Ancient Corinth, and ancient Tenea towards Chiliomodi.
History and character
Athikia is built on the foothills of Mount Skaroumpalo. The forested mountains and hills around its valley form a natural wall, with the only opening to the north. The community also includes Alamannos and the Monastery of the Archangels.
Nearby, towards Chiliomodi, lies ancient Tenea. The famous Kouros of Tenea, now in the Glyptothek in Munich, came from the site of Kiafa, south-east of the village. Its head is also the emblem of the local football club “Teneatis”, founded in 1930.
Practical notes
- About 12 km from Corinth.
- A good stop for local produce, especially olive oil and wine.
