📍 Check in with Corinthia PassAncient Nemea (formerly known as Herakleion, Koutsomodi) is a semi-mountainous village in the regional unit of Corinthia. Located at an altitude of 286 meters, it had a population of 308 residents as of 2021. The village belongs to the community of Ancient Nemea within the municipality of Nemea in the Peloponnese Region. The modern village of Koutsomodi used to be a district of Ancient Nemea, with the whole area bearing that name. Ancient Nemea was a renowned city in antiquity, famous for the mythical Nemean Lion slain by Hercules. The ruins of the Temple of Nemean Zeus, of which only nine columns and a few drum sections remain, are located very close to the present-day village of Ancient Nemea. The region is also celebrated for its Nemean wines, which are produced locally.
