Near the village of Aidonia in southern Corinthia lies one of the most important Mycenaean cemeteries in the region: a cluster of rock-cut chamber tombs of the 14th–13th centuries BC.

The Aidonia treasure

The cemetery became widely known for its rich grave goods — gold jewellery, seal stones and fine metalwork of high quality. Part of the material left the country illegally and was returned after legal claims, a case that became a landmark in the protection of cultural heritage.

What you will see

On site you can make out the entrance passages and doorways of the tombs cut into the soft rock. The finds themselves are not kept here.

• Open ground with no facilities; access to individual tombs may be restricted.
• Check whether the site is open before travelling.
