Its economy rests on farming, and it is home to many businesses packing agricultural produce and making vinegar. After the founding of the modern Greek state, from 1833 to 1840, it was the seat of the Municipality of Aigialeia, with its own magistrates’ and commercial courts. Today it is the seat of the Municipality of Velo-Vocha. It is crossed by the Zapantis stream, which rises near Nemea and reaches the sea at Vrachati.
