Stimagka lies in the vineyard belt between Nemea and Sikyonia. It is one of those villages whose economy rests on the grape — both table grapes and wine.
Its character
A working village whose rhythm follows the seasons of the vine. During the harvest, from late August, the whole area mobilises.
All around spreads one of the most characteristic landscapes of Corinthia: low hills covered in vines, with the mountains behind.
What is around
Wineries of the wider zone, Ancient Nemea, Ancient Kleonai, and the mountain roads into Sikyonia.
History and character
Stimagka is built on the northern slopes of Mount Evangelistria, at 520 metres.
The area has been inhabited since antiquity: ancient Thyamia is placed near the site called Kamari, and remains of a fortress survive on the summit of Evangelistria. During Frankish rule the Evangelistria tower served as a signalling point between Acrocorinth and the castles of Stymphalia and western Corinthia. The old primary school of 1898 is a listed building.
