visitcorinthia.comStefani

Stefani lies on the southern edge of the region, in mountain country near the passes leading to the Argolid. It is one of the remotest corners of Corinthia.
Its character
A small settlement with a stock-raising tradition, ringed by hills and low scrub. Life is quiet and tourism essentially absent — which for many visitors is exactly the point.
What is around
The castle of Agionori, the historic defiles of Dervenakia, and the routes towards Nemea.
History and character
Stefani is built like an amphitheatre at 830 metres, on the stony slope of Trachoni in the Tretos range, on the border with the Argolid. From the village the view reaches the plain of Argos.
On the hill west of the village stands the Stefanion Observatory, first operated in 1967 and used by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, mainly to observe variable stars. On the plateau between Stefani and Agionori stands the Old Monastery of the Taxiarchis, a Byzantine monument of the 13th century.
