Derveni is the westernmost seaside village of Corinthia, on the border with Achaea. Quiet and authentic, with pebbly beaches and clear waters, it keeps the character of a traditional coastal spot away from mass tourism. The surrounding slopes are covered with vineyards and olive groves.
History and character
Derveni was founded around 1860–1865 by people from Zacholi (today Evrostina) who moved down to the coast. They grew and traded Corinthian currants, which brought the village prosperity in the second half of the 19th century.
In 1928 the village was renamed Stenoporo, and in 1929 Akteon; in 1933 it took back the name Derveni. About 10 km to the south, at the place called Katafygia, stands the church of Panagia ton Katafygion (1782). The people of Zacholi hid in the caves and cliffs of this area during Ottoman rule.
